DILA Capital invests in Peru startups

Mexico-based venture capital fund DILA Capital is currently investing out of its third fund, DILA III. Out of twenty fund investments, two, or 10%, are startups led by Peruvians.

One of the top stories of 2019 was Crehana’s Series A round, the largest to date for a Peru startup. DILA Capital participated along with Acumen.  DILA Capital  also invested earlier this year alongside Angel Ventures in Emptor.

Considering the firm’s first two funds, DILA I and DILA II, had no Peru startups in the portfolio, this is a good sign for the Peru startup community. It displays both the high quality of founders coming out of Peru and the regional perspective of Mexico based venture capital funds.

If you are interested in learning more about DILA, in 2016, Diego Serebrisky interviewed Alejandro Diez Barroso, Managing Parter of DILA Capital. Today, Alejandro writes frequently on his Medium page here, including most recently his outlook for 2020.

According to LAVCA, The venture capital investment in Latin America was outside of Brazil was over $0.8 billion in 2018, and doubling each year. If eventually, 10% of that goes to Peru startups, Peruvian founders will be in good shape!
